-All solving can be done INDOORS and requires NO running around outside in the cold.

-Location will be a commercial establishment that can provide drinks and snacks

-3 puzzles will be available to work on simultaneously, and one final puzzle will be ‘unlocked’ over the course of the night

-Bonus puzzles may be on premises.

-Tons of hints will be available, if you are having trouble – 0r if the puzzles are too unfair.

DASH 6 Twin Cities Rerun – Saturday May 17th – Registration Open

DASH6_TC_Logo

(Update: Registration is expected to CLOSE on May 11th – please register by then!)

DASH 6 is scheduled to run in the Twin Cities!
Congratulations!

Event is planned to take place at 10:00 AM on May 17.

UPDATE: The location for DASH 6 Twin Cities will be University of Minnesota West Bank!

(Yes – this is three weeks later than the official DASH cities do it – this is a ‘rerun’. But it is still the real deal! We probably would have had a blizzard here in the twin cities on April 26th anyways… so let’s enjoy the puzzle hunt in the more-likely spring, and look at the positive side to local organization failing to get things together in time 😉 )

What is DASH?

DASH is a one-day team-based puzzle-solving race, that happens in 14 cities (and our city on a different day)! Puzzles will involve logic, lateral thinking, wordplay, and more creative cleverness!

DASH is also painstakingly designed to provide multiple levels of difficulty – there’s the ‘New’ level and ‘Experienced’ (harder) level, just as were offered last year. This year there is also a Junior level specifically designed for younger players (teens).

When?

10am on Saturday, May 17th, 2014! Yes, this is the last day of finals on the U of M campus (for the second year in a row…). Hopefully you can still make it!

Where is it?

The Twin Cities DASH environs are YET TO BE DETERMINED. But don’t worry, we’ll tell you when we figure it out.

How long is it?

The event will start at 10:00am and wrap up around 6:00pm, Central Standard Time. Experienced teams may finish faster.

So what are these puzzles like?

Puzzle content is meant to surprise and challenge! They are designed so that teams of 4 or so will enjoy a challenge – and particularly designed so that different TYPES of thinking (and brains) will be necessary to find answers. Few teams will succeed without taking the occasional hint (and hints will be available in abundance!).

Puzzles may include the following and more in combination:

-Elements of logic (like sudokus, or other puzzles where application of rules leads to an answer)

-Elements of lateral thinking (like a rebus, or a cryptic crossword, where thinking ‘outside the box’ and broadening interpretations will lead to an answer)

-Elements of trivia (like crossword puzzles, where remembering or looking up information will lead to an answer)

How many people should be on my team?

The optimal size for a team is 3-5 players. More than 5 and it gets difficult for everyone to collaborate – we highly encourage aiming for 4. If you need help assembling a team, email us!

How much does it cost?

The Minneapolis DASH 6 registration fee will be $10 per person to cover costs. Payment instructions will be sent to registered teams. If that is too much for you, please let us know so we can arrange something – we still want you to play.

What about the weather?

Please come prepared for the weather. Every effort will be made to make sure locations will have indoor puzzle-solving space – but you will be walking outside for much of the day, so be prepared.

How much physical activity is involved?

Expect to walk a few miles over the course of the day, with many stops for solving.

What should I bring?

Paper, pens and pencils, scissors, tape, ruler.

cell phone that can make calls.

Clipboards (something to write on!), sharpie, colored pens/pencils are also often helpful.

Smartphone/Reference materials – If you need to Google something and don’t have a smartphone, feel free to ask Game Control for help and we will be happy to act as your Google proxy.

Food and water – a few stops will be at/near cafes, but puzzling takes lots of energy, so stay well-fueled. Cash is also a good idea.

Good walking shoes and weather-friendly attire.

Be prepared!

Let’s do it! How?
